Research area keywords: high-intensity laser-plasma interaction, magnetized high-energy-density plasma
Dr. Gennady Fiksel received his MS degree from the Novosibirsk State University, Russia in 1975. After that he was working in the Institute of Nuclear Physics, Novosibirsk, specializing in the areas of magnetic plasma confinement, plasma diagnostics, and neutral beam injection.
He received his PhD degree from the University of Madison, WI in 1991 and then joined a group of the Physics Department studying plasma confinement in a Reversed Field Pinch device. In 2009 he joined the Laboratory for Laser Energetics of the University of Rochester, NY and switched his interests to Inertial Fusion Confinement and magnetized high-energy- density plasma. In 2015 he joined the CUOS group of the University of Michigan and has been working on developing of a strong magnetic field system for high-intensity laser plasma applications.
In 2013, Gennady Fiksel was elected a Fellow of the American Physics Society.
